Dr. Wininger is originally from Blountville, TN and received his BS in Biology from East Tennessee State University in 1985. He attended The University of Tennessee-Knoxville and received an MS in Biotechnology and a PhD in Zoology in 1990. He moved to Charlotte, NC and directed The Center for Reproductive Medicine until 1993 and then moved to Abington, PA to become IVF Lab Director at Abington Memorial Hospital. His daughter Morgan was born at Abington Memorial Hospital in 1996. In 1998 Dr. Wininger moved to Atlanta to become IVF Lab Director of Reproductive Biology Associates (RBA). His wife Sandy gave birth to their son Matthew in 2000 in Atlanta. While at RBA, Dr. Wininger was contacted by Wake Forest to help design the new IVF lab at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. During that process Dr. Wininger was invited to move to Winston-Salem and work in that new lab. He worked there four years then moved to High Point, NC for 10 years to design and direct the IVF Lab at Premier Fertility Center. He is now Director of Laboratories at Atlantic Reproductive Medicine Associates in Raleigh, NC. He has been on the Society for Assisted Reproduction’s (SART) Executive Council for 12 years and is one of the organizers of North Carolina’s Embryology Society. In his spare time Dr. Wininger likes to play guitar, perform mechanical work on various old cars, and spend time fishing and skiing. He has two sisters and one brother has been married for 28 years. Dr. Wininger designed the IVF Lab at Westlake IVF and was their first Lab Director. He is very excited about returning to direct the Westlake Laboratories.
